Our Solution to Protecting Wildlife
Poacher Alert is a web and app-based solution to connect, inform and support all stakeholders involved in anti-poaching initiatives and projects. It is a communications and data-sharing hub with an aim to improve enforcement and the protection of wildlife species.
Putting an end to wildlife poaching requires collaboration and innovation. Enforcement bodies, conservation organisations and the public need to work together to implement effective strategies. Join us in our mission and meet our partners.
Wildlife Poaching: A Global Phenomenon
Poaching refers to the illegal capture and killing of wildlife. It is a global phenomenon, with the illegal trade of wild animals and plants across borders valued in the billions.
With hundreds of millions of wild animals and plants poached each year for the illicit trade in pets, food, traditional medicine, ornaments and other products, our natural world is facing serious pressure and decline. Thousands of protected species and their interconnected ecosystems are at risk.
A key challenge to ending poaching and the illegal wildlife trade is the effective enforcement of national and international laws protecting wildlife. Across the world, enforcement agencies and conservation bodies struggle with a lack of investment, training and resources to identify, apprehend and prosecute poachers.

The Scale of the Wildlife Poaching Problem
According to the 2024 World Wildlife Crime Report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), 140,000 wildlife seizures were reported across 162 countries over the period 2015-2021. These figures are only a fraction of the true scale of the illegal wildlife trade, which Interpol states has an estimated value of USD 20 billion annually.
Wildlife poaching has a detrimental impact on thousands of wild animal and plant species, many of which are already vulnerable to extinction. The graphs below show the range of species affected, as well as those species most affected by the illicit wildlife trade.

Our Focus on Enforcement
The illegal wildlife trade involves criminal activity, with enforcement agencies and conservation organisations at the forefront of efforts to stop wildlife poaching.
We believe that by enhancing coordination, reporting, response and prevention mechanisms, enforcement agencies and conservation partners will be able to work more effectively to identify, apprehend and prosecute poachers.
The public also plays an important role in enforcement, for example by participating in the reporting of wildlife crime incidents and supporting anti-poaching initiatives globally through their subscription.
